Your local stonemasons
Jackson's Stonemasonry is based in Winchcombe, so if you're in the town or the villages around it — Sudeley, Gretton, Toddington, Alderton, Stanway, Ford, Guiting Power — we are genuinely local: no travel premium, quick site visits, and easy to get hold of once the job is underway.
Winchcombe is a stone town through and through. Its high street is lined with Cotswold limestone cottages and townhouses, much of it centuries old, and the surrounding landscape is stitched together with dry stone field walls. It's also a place where stonework problems are common and predictable: soft limestone that has suffered under cement pointing, garden walls leaning after wet winters, and roadside walls clipped by traffic on narrow lanes.
What we do in and around Winchcombe
- Dry stone walling — field walls, garden walls and boundary walls in the villages and farmland around the town; gap repairs through to complete rebuilds.
- Stone restoration — repointing in lime mortar and matched stone replacement on the town's period cottages and townhouses, including listed properties.
- Stone wall repair — collapsed and bulging garden walls, and roadside walls damaged by vehicles, rebuilt with the original stone.
- Stone cleaning — careful cleaning of algae and grime from shaded elevations, garden walls and steps.
- Stonemasonry and carving — new stonework for extensions and gardens, and hand-carved house signs and date stones for Winchcombe properties.
- House signs and numbers — hand-cut names and door numbers in Cotswold stone, built into a wall as it is laid or fixed to one already standing. Our own workshop is here, so a Winchcombe sign is cut a few minutes from where it will hang.
Conservation area and listed buildings
Much of central Winchcombe lies within a conservation area, and the town has a high concentration of listed buildings. We work on both regularly: like-for-like repairs in lime with matched stone are our default anyway, and where listed building consent is needed we can supply the method details to support the application. If you're not sure what applies to your property, ask — it costs nothing to find out before work is planned.
Local, and staying that way
Most of our Winchcombe work comes from recommendation — a neighbour's rebuilt wall, a repointed frontage someone walked past. That only keeps happening if every job is done properly, which suits the way we work. If you'd like to see examples before getting in touch, have a look at our projects, or simply stop us for a chat when you see us working in the town.
