Jackson's Stonemasonry Ltd is a stonemasonry business based in Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, working across Cheltenham, the Cotswolds and the surrounding towns and villages.

We work in the traditional trades of the area: stonemasonry, stone fireplaces, stone restoration, lime repointing, stone carving, stone cleaning and dry stone walling. Most of our work is in Cotswold limestone — the stone this landscape is built from — using the materials and techniques it was built with: hand-worked stone, lime mortars, and walling methods that predate the cement bag by centuries.

Who you will be dealing with

Charlie — stonemason, and the one who answers the phone

Charlie went straight from school into a stonemasonry apprenticeship, training at Bath College and qualifying in the trade. During the apprenticeship he took on small walling jobs at weekends, and those weekends turned into a business: Jackson’s Stonemasonry Ltd has been trading as a company for two years.

He came second in the SkillBuild stonemasonry competition, the national skills competition for the construction trades. It is worth knowing because stonemasonry is one of the trades where the difference between competent and good is visible for a hundred years afterwards.

Elliot — stonemason, lime repointing and restoration

Elliot is a stonemason who specialises in lime repointing and restoration. That is its own discipline rather than a sideline: knowing which mortar a building was built with, why cement will damage it, and how to cut out and replace failed pointing without marking the stone either side of it.

Between them that covers the two halves of the trade — new stone cut and worked to a drawing, and old stone kept standing.
