A note on Gloucester's stone
Unlike the uniformly limestone towns higher up in the Cotswolds, Gloucester's older stonework is mixed: Cotswold limestone brought down from the hills, softer local stones, and sandstone in some church and Victorian work. Matching the right stone — and the right mortar — matters even more where materials vary, and it's the first thing we establish on any repair.
